Japanese physicists are now using the research facilities of the European particle physics laboratory more and more frequently. In response, the laboratory believes Japan should give greater financial support to particle physics research in Europe. Laboratory director Carlo Rubia recently made a personal visit to Japan in an attempt to convince Japanese scientists and government officials to agree to contribute more to the LHC's proposed Large Hadron Collider.
