The producer appeared behind the recording studio window and smiled and waved to me like an old friend. And after I had read out a(n)1test passage, he said, “That’s fine, wonderful, and your2is perfect, lovely.” Then I read a longer English passage about the delights of3in Britain, and another about the delights of visiting London, and4were “fantastic” and “just right”, and I began to5a career in radio. To be frank, I was fairly6in spite of lack of experience. Across the room in the Hamburg news agency where we7 , a colleague named Peter Turner8me, “I say, Mike, a man on the phone here wants someone to do a9in English, and I’m booked up. Would you read something to him in English as a sort of10 ?” I did, and he said, “Perfect, Lovely—Would you come to the studio?” It was11reading their passages in English in the studio that they noticed my vowel pronunciations were not12King’s English, or even Prince Philip’s. There was a large13 , and then the voice said, “Fine, lively…but you said the word ‘castle’ with a short ‘a’. Could we read the passage again please?” This was14 . But then they noticed other15in my pronunciation. “It’s my northern English accent,” I said16 , because I had to apologize for it. “Oh, I see… But Mr. Jamieson, we’ll have to17it right, I’m afraid. The recording is for teaching English to German school children, and it18be spoken in the way it is taught in German schools.” I read the passage again…again…and again. But19 , you can’t20the pronunciation of a lifetime in an hour. The studio men became desperate and underlined the vowels, so that I’d remember them. Few, really. But because I had to concentrate on them, I made a lot of mistakes in my reading.

Many years ago, after decades of hard work, I finally had everything I thought I wanted. I had every reason to be1 , but I wasn’t really. Looking around, I saw some of the happiest people I knew weren’t the ones who “ 2it all”. Some had3challenges, while others didn’t have a dime. So I was determined to4out their secrets. I began the study of happiness,5experts and scientific research. I also6100 people whose happiness didn’t depend on external circumstances. I7them the Happy 100. But they are not8happy—they may have sadness, fear, anger, or pain. But they still9the inner peace and well-being that’s the essence of true happiness, where they10happiness to their experiences, rather than trying to get happiness from them. My interviews11clear evidence that happy people live their lives12 . Some of the Happy 100 were simply13with happy dispositions (性格), but most learned to be happy by thinking and living in a particular way.14 , I found some “happiness habits” that the Happy 100 share. Scientists have recently discovered that15thoughts and behaviors create specific neural (神经系统的) pathways in the wiring in our brains, the16water flowing downhill17a groove (沟) in the earth. When we think or behave a certain way over and over, the neural pathway is18and the groove becomes deeper. Unhappy people19to have more negative neural pathways—their minds are literally20in the rut (车辙). Scientists used to think these neural pathways were set in stone. But new research shows that when you repeatedly think, feel, and act in a different way, the brain actually rewires itself. This means you can change your happiness set point.

“You afraid of heights?” my dad asked, as I climbed up the seemingly unstable ladder to the second-storey rooftop. I was up there to1him fix our TV antenna. “Not yet,” I replied. I didn’t have2to do up there—mostly I just held the antenna still and handed my dad tools—so I began to3to him as he worked. I could4talk to my dad. He was more like a big5than an actual adult. Most of my peers would be6to have their dad7around with them, but not me;8 , I took great pride in him. No one else had a dad as cool as mine. After he9working on the antenna, we went inside and I began to10ready for bed. As I entered my room, I looked11and saw my dad working at his computer in his office next to mine. As I12him, I had the most incredible13to just poke my head in and tell him that I14him. I quickly15that urge away and continued on into my room. A篇:

  1—5 DAABC 6—10CACDB 11—15 AADCB 16—20 DDCBA
  8. C。根据下文中“Perfect, Lovely…Would you come to the studio?” 
  9. D。由下文第17空后“The recording is for…”推断。
  15. C。由最后一句“…, I made a lot of mistakes”推断。
因此,get it right最符合。

  1—5 CBDAC 6—10 DDBCC 11—15 AABCD 16—20 BACDA
  7. D。从下文中called Sight First to help the blind中的暗示,这是发起的一种“运动”。
  8. B。与上文中“Money from my first book went to school…”一致。
A项:拜访,但常用drop in on sb./ drop in at some place;B项:完成,是及物动词;D项:遗漏。
  11. A。运用平行结构即可,但答案D有干扰,应该用not a / not any。
  14. C。逻辑意义理解题,从第15空后“…, but I’ve done that, there’s a …” 
  15. D。从词义入手,A项:充满;B项:喜欢;C项的搭配是“be sensitive to”,意思是“对什么敏感”。
  17. A。 根据第19空后“Love is a chain of giving”可以推断。

  1—5 CACDA 6—10 BDABC 11—15 ADBDC 16—20 BAADC
与下文中“While others didn’t have a health changenglles”dime(钱)对应。
  4. D。 turn out:结果是;seek不可接out;work out:计算出;锻炼;find out:发现。
  10. C。从下句“rather than trying to get happiness from them”的意义对应理解。 
与后文中“…learned to be happy”对应。
  16. B。结合上句中的“pathways”和下文中的“…when we think or behave a certain way”以及词义,可知选B。

  1—5 ADBCA 6—10 DBACC 11—15 AADBC 16—20 BCADA
(No one else had a dad as cool as mine)。
  7. B。hang around 
常用短语get ready for。
