In October 1993, the author visited Zhou Enlai’s military secretary at Hongshankou, in the western suburbs of Beijing, and later general Zhou Jia Ding, who retired as the discipline inspection commissioner of the National Defense University. General Chou told the author that at the time of the “Red Guards” and “rebel factions” in the “Cultural Revolution,” Premier Chou took good care of himself but he always kept an eye on the security of the leaders of the Central Government. To this end, he wrote a letter. The content of the letter is that the Cultural Revolution is in the ascendant and can not be stopped. I hope all of you will have to be careful and cautious. Do not speak too much of the words. Do not overdo it. Otherwise, he will not speak well or protect you. We must seek truth from facts and must never admit that we are “three anti-elements” (at the time referring to the Chinese Communist Party, opposing socialism and opposing Mao Tse-tung’s thought).
