黄河三角洲曾经沧桑巨变。历史上黄河下游的决徙往往导致主河道的改变,黄河曾北自静海东流,也曾南夺淮河入海。从广义的角度讲,以河南巩县为顶点,北起天津,南到黄淮的广大区域,都可以称为黄河三角洲。从狭义的角度讲,在不同的历史时期,由于黄河入海口的变动,黄河三角洲所指的地域范围也不尽相同,使人们对黄河三角洲的概念产生了歧义。从现实的角度看,人类有意识地开发三角洲是20世纪晚期的事, The Yellow River Delta has changed dramatically.
