This article is intended to investigate the phenomenon of “mimicry” of interviewers in Chinese TV talk shows: During interviews, interviewers often play the role of mock public: presenting questions or commenting to interviewees on behalf of program viewers, citizens and the general public . Through the analysis of the talk show “Luyuyue”, this paper finds four forms of “mimicry”: direct and indirect reference to the public, questioning the public and building a public group. As far as its motivation is concerned, the professional quality of journalists determines that they must be neutral while serving the audience. Secondly, “mimicry” can prevent or reduce poor communication caused by the questioning of dangerous questions.
