US Bureau of Reclamation used the largest centrifuge in the United States for earth dam safety research. Two civil engineering faculty at the Boulder School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Colorado used the centrifuge to determine how sinkhole subsidence eventually moved to the surface of a prototype earth dam under stress and caused the dam to crash. Centrifugal centrifugal force generated to simulate the stress caused by large structures composed of soil and concrete.
