唐代润州甘露寺,有一位老和尚。李德裕任淮南节度使巡视到这里时,把一根方竹杖送给了这们老和尚。这方竹杖原产于大宛国,质地坚实,切面呈正方形,节须由四面成对地生长。后来,李德裕出任浙西观察使时,又来到甘露寺,当时那位老和尚还健在。李德裕问他:“方竹杖还在吗?”老和尚说:“至今仍当宝物一样珍藏着。”李德裕请他把方竹杖拿出来看看。一看,原来老和尚已经将它修成圆形,并且漆上了漆。李德裕非常惋惜,哀叹了一整天。
