Napoleon said: “The soldier who does not want to be a general is not a good soldier.” We can say so: The general must be a good soldier when he is a soldier. In the ranks of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, many stars constitute a conspicuous bright constellation. We admire the glory of the generals, not only because of their shining shoulders; we advocate the general's cause, not just their brilliant present. Every general has a section of soldier's story; every general has fought bravely in the storm of life. In celebration of the 75th anniversary of our military, we have opened up the section entitled “Beginning of the Day” to listen to the generals' memories of the beginning of the military and to inspire young officers and men forged in the barracks. I sincerely hope that the generals will pick up the pens in their own hands and invite work and people living near the generals to give us clues. We have every reason to believe that generations after generation of soldiers will be tempered into steel by the enlightenment and inspiration of the path of military service taken by the older generation of soldiers.
