开发校本美术课程,首先教师必须深入了解本地的资源信息,寻找美术资源,如:本地域范围内相关的历史起源;包括地理位置、地貌特征,以及丰富的自然资源,便利的交通等;人文风俗,包括习俗、服饰及民间工艺、饮食、歌舞、建筑;文化遗址,包括介绍本地的建筑、遗址;文化精粹,包括本地的山歌、民间故事等。教师不仅要了解当地的美术资源,还要广泛探索一切和本民族有关的内容,才能开发出具有本土特色的校本课程。
