Objective To analyze the iodine nutrition status of children aged 0 ~ 6 years in Nanjing, and provide reference for reasonable iodine intake in 0 ~ 6 years old children in Nanjing. Methods Nine hundred and sixty-five children aged 0-6 years who underwent physical examinations in the Department of Child Health Care, Affiliated MCH Hospital, Nanjing Medical University from 2015 to 2016 were enrolled in this study. Urinary iodine levels were determined using a special urinary iodine detector (SR-I-100) . Results The average urinary iodine number of girls aged 0-6 was significantly lower than that of boys (P <0.01). However, there was no significant difference in iodine deficiency rate between the two groups (P> 0.05). There was no significant difference in urinary iodine number and iodine deficiency rate among different sexes (0-12 months) (P> 0.05), female children (1-2 years old) and preschool girls (3-6 years old) Iodine mean was significantly lower than the same age male children, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.01), pre-school girls iodine deficiency rate was significantly higher than boys of the same age, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). With age, the urinary iodine number of female children gradually decreased, and the iodine deficiency rate gradually increased. There was no significant change in urinary iodine number and iodine deficiency rate among male children. Conclusion The iodine nutrition status of children aged 0 ~ 6 years in Nanjing is generally at an appropriate level. However, some children still have iodine deficiency, especially for preschool girls. Timely iodine supplementation should be timely for these children.
