Emei director Zhang Yi, born in February 1930 in Qinshui County, Shanxi Province, an ordinary peasant family. Zhang died from a young mother, at the age of seven or eight, because of Japanese warlordism invaded China and the Japanese army razed to Qinshui County, the whole family fleeing from the countryside. In April 1944, Qinshui was liberated and Zhang’s family returned to their hometown. Zhang Yi, 14, happily entered the anti-Japanese democratic high school. After graduating from primary school in 1946, he was assigned a primary school teacher in a village and town near his hometown.
