In 2001, less than half of Internet users in the United States were shopping online. Security and personal privacy are barriers to online shopping. The number of computers on the Internet in China increased 26 times between October 1997 and December 2000. 330,000 in 1997 and 8.92 million in December 2000. Statistics show that there are 10.02 million computers in the country and about 26.5 million people surfing the Internet. It is estimated that by 2005, there will be 40 million internet computers in China.
