The bell on New Year’s Day in 1993 proclaimed that the establishment of a unified large-scale market within the European Community for many years has officially started to run. This is indeed a “glamorous day” for the 12 EU countries. In the past six months, drivers of motor vehicles between the member states of the European Union have no need to go through the tax formalities for transit. Residents can have more freedom to cross-border purchases and loans have been liberalized. However, the EC economic situation did not improve very quickly, and the cyclical economic recession continued.
