In determining the characteristics of an isolated wing by the analytic method, it is necessary to calculate first the spanwise load distribution. The well known Lotz method has been proved to be too laborious for daily use. The Schrenk method, though empirical in nature, will give a good enough result within a much shorter time. The latter method is outlined in the following. It is further extended to cover the anti-symmetric cases. With the spanwise load distribution thus determined, the aerodynamic characteristics of the wing can be easily calculated with the help of the tables included in this paper. A numerical example is also given to illustrate this method.
