Monolayer cultured bone marrow stromal cells, fibroblast colony (CFU-F), have higher radiosensitivity, whereas the irradiated bone marrow stroma has a higher radiation tolerance. It has therefore been suggested that the bone marrow stroma has two different cell subsets with different radiosensitivity. To confirm this hypothesis, the authors used in vitro monolayer culture of normal bone marrow and guinea pig bone marrow of non-hematological patients and estimated the degree of inhibition of CFU-F on the basis of the inhibition of femoral cell suspension irradiated with different doses of radiation (100, 200, and 300 rad) F radiation sensitivity. The number of cells in CFU-F (N) was counted under an inverted microscope and the diameter of CFU-F was measured,
