《论语》释名一直是一个悬案,自来有多种说法。现代研究者,大都承认“论”有“编集”、“编次”义。杨伯峻先生却又说各种解释“都不一定可靠,可以不去管它”。汉代学者讲著述活动大量使用“编次”、“编集”义的“论”字,清代段玉裁从文字训诂角度指出“仑”义为有条理的聚集简册,“论以仑会意”,为《论语》释名提供了依据,但未引起人们足够的重视。上世纪末出土、公布的《郭店竹简》,其中儒家子思派文献《性自命出》一文,谈到孔子“仑会”《诗》《书》《礼》《乐》,由古文字学知识可知,“仑会”正是汉人“论次”、“论”、“编次”说的源头,使《论语》命名之谜涣然冰释。《论语》之名起于先秦还是汉代,“论”读平声还是去声,都可以由此而定。
