In order to investigate the impact of rising prices on the life of residents, this paper takes Guangdong Province as an example to make an empirical analysis of changes in consumer spending of urban residents with different income levels from two aspects of short-term and long-term. The results show that in the short run, rising consumer prices have led to different degrees of increase in consumer spending among residents at different income levels in urban areas, but consumer spending at the lowest income level has the highest growth rate, which is generally higher than that of other income residents. In the long run, rising prices have different effects on the residents’ consumption expenditures at different income levels in urban areas. Among them, the expenditure on low-income households, low-income households and high-income households increased, while middle-income households and high-income households Decreased spending. However, both in the long run and in the short run, rising prices have the greatest impact on low-income households, and their consumption expenditures have risen more than those of other income groups.
