In previous literature, the authors found that the clinical effect of ovariectomy on postmenopausal women with advanced breast cancer is related to the level of estrogen receptor (ER), especially when the ER concentration exceeds 25 fmol/mg, the clinical treatment effect is best ( 81.8%). ER concentration has the best surgical evaluation for patients with premenopausal advanced breast cancer who opt for bilateral ovariectomy. When the ER concentration is low (5 to 10 fmol/mg), the clinical treatment effect is poor (67% to 68%). In this study, the authors estimated survival based on different ER levels in the tumor tissue to determine whether the treatment effect and prolonged survival were associated with high ER levels.
