Chinese Youth Head Office becomes Industrial Focus on the London Book Fair

  Chinese Youth International has been listed as a sample for successful investment to publication and media industry
  From April 16th to 18th, 2012, the 41st London Book Fair was held grandly in conference center of Earls Court. On this book fair, China was undertaking the responsibility for collective activities for “market focus”. There were 181 publishing organizations attended the fair with about 1000 attendees. The area of the exhibition booth was 2019 m2 with about ten thousand categories of books. More than 300 activities were held. Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Li Changchun and Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee as well as State Councilor Liu Yandong attended the Opening Ceremony of Chinese Collective. This is a significant international culture exchange activity held by Chinese government.
  The president of the head office – Xu Wenli, leading the international publishing and marketing team, mainly including foreign affair offices for publishing media of Chinese Youth International, Chinese Youth and the head office, participated in this Book Fair. GAPP, not only provided stand for our press for free in the Chinese exhibition area, but also exhibited about 30 products of Chinese Youth International in the comprehensive exhibition stand for English version fine books. As a professional exhibition stand in No.1 pavilion of Chinese Collective, Chinese Youth International set independent exhibition stand in the UK art exhibition area, with about 70 fine books and topic selecting samples, attracting numerous international publishers and distributors with its unique Chinese culture art and international innovation design subjects. Among all the books, 5000 Years for Chinese Art, Discover China, Chinese Tea Culture, Chinese Kung Fu, Eastern Garden, the Forbidden City and “international innovation design” series were ordered by many publishers. The large art picture album The most Beautiful Chinese Classic Paintings published last year renewed its reprint contracts for French version and North America English version on this Book Fair, gaining an outstanding achievement in first in sales and in cooperated publication of finished books among Chinese invested publishing organizations.
  In the morning of the Opening Ceremony on April 16th, the director general of GAPP Liu Binjie, vice director general Wu Shulin, director of publishing management division Wu Shangzhi, director of international exchange and cooperation division Zhang Fuhai, and director general of Publication Board of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC Tao Hua, visited the stand of Chinese Youth International. The leaders listened carefully to the introduction on development of “walk out” program of Chinese Youth Head Office by director Xu Wenli, expressed their congratulations on successful entrance to overseas market in manner of commercial mode of Chinese Youth Head Office and the 5th anniversary for successful operation in UK of Chinese Youth International. Director general Liu Binjie appreciated that Chinese Youth International “provided beneficial exploration and useful experiences for internationalized development of Chinese publication”, and hoped that Chinese Youth International might “summarize their experiences, keep up the good work, continue deploitation and innovation, publish more fine works facing the whole world, and thus to make new contribution on promotion of Chinese–Foreign cultural exchange and to expand international influence of Chinese culture.   In the afternoon of April 17, director Xu Wenli hosted the “5th Anniversary Reception for Establishment in UK of Chinese Youth International”, about one hundred Chinese and foreign guests, including representatives from GAPP, UK Trade and Investment, UK Publishers’ Association and so on, as well as international cooperation partner representatives of Chinese Youth attended the reception. Vice director-general Wu Shulin of GAPP, leading various divisional and bureau level leaders such as Wu Shangzhi, Zhang Fuhai, Zhao Xiuling, Kong Delong, as well as journalists from media, attended the activity and addressed. Vice director-general Wu Shulin expressed the congratulation for the 5th anniversary of Chinese Youth International on behalf of GAPP, and appreciated the efforts of Chinese Youth International on introducing Chinese culture to the world highly. He said, “In the past 5 years, Chinese Youth International kept on growing, increasing on book varieties and expanding on book fields. It has found a stable issuance channel, as well as a relatively firm commercial mode, and fulfilled double harvest on economic benefits and social benefits. The overseas success of Chinese Youth International is a hard-won achievement, worth careful summarization and promotion.” The general manager of Chinese Youth International Guo Guang read out the congratulation from Chinese embassador in UK – Liu Xiaoming. Embassador Liu Xiaoming expressed that Chinese Youth International took promotion of Chinese Culture and Art as its own responsibility, by integration of publishing resources of China and UK and with the help of the mature international publishing issuance platform in UK, pushed out a batch of fine books with high quality on the international market. It not only enhanced understanding on Chinese culture of the international readers, but also performed meaningful exploitation on Chinese publishing enterprises’ participating in international competition. He hoped that Chinese Youth International can “seize the opportunity, publish more good books, keep up the good work, demonstrate glamour of Chinese culture and elegant demeanour of Chinese publishers, continue to take the role of messenger for Chinese – UK culture exchange and keep on getting ground.” UK embassador in China, Wu Sitian, appreciated in his congratulation, “Chinese Youth International is a successful sample in Chinese publishing industry, and so be in UK and the world.”
  On the reception held by CBBC at the very night, General Manager of Chinese Youth International, Guo Guang, entrusted by director Xu Wenli, reported the situation of expanding of international publishing business of the Chinese Youth International to Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Li Changchun. Mr. Li Changchun showed his concern on international publishing business of Chinese Youth International and offered his encouragement. Director-general Liu Binjie indicated to Mr. Li Changchun that he would promote the successful experiences of Chinese Youth Head Office to the industry. He expected that the Chinese publishing circle would establish more publishing media companies overseas as soon as possible with reference to the mode of Chinese Youth International.   During the London Book Fair, our press planned and undertook two significant Chinese Collective activities: “China-UK Publishing Media Industry Investment Forum” in Elizabeth II Conference Center, and “Chinese Style Scenery – Chinese Modern Photographic Art Fair” held in the gallery of School of Oriental and African Studies. These two activities were highly appreciated by Chinese and British leaders and insiders, and made positive contribution to push cultural exchanges between China and UK, as well as deepened publishing cooperation between these two countries.
  The “China – UK Publishing Media Industry Investment Forum” held in April 15 was a high-end professional forum held by governments of China and UK on the thorough cooperation and bilateral investment for publishing and media industry, and it was also one of the most high- end and cored theme forums in Chinese collective activities on 2012 London Book Fair. The forum took “communication, cooperation, investment and all win” as its subject. Chinese and British leaders, economists and more than 300 Chinese and English publishers, representatives from investment organizations attended the forum, including member of Central Political Bureau, State Council Liu Yandong, director general of GAPP Liu Binjie, UK Business Secretary Cable and director general of UK Trade and Investment Nick Baird, and famous economist Li Yining. Liu Yandong made an important speech on the forum. She emphasized that China and UK shall expand its depth and breadth for cultural exchange between the two countries to achieve complementary advantages, and thus to accept challenges from industry transformation for publication and media, and to contribute to the development of comprehensive strategic partner relationship, as well as pushing progress of human civilization. Director-general of GAPP Liu Binjie and Director General of UK Trade and Investment Nick Baird confirmed Chinese Youth International as a successful case in the theme speech for the forum. Director Xu Wenli of our Press was designated by GAPP and UKTI for a splendid speech. He shared the experiences and knowledge for success on Chinese Youth International’s investment in UK with the guests. When talking about the internationalized development strategy, director Xu Wenli emphasized that, “The process of Chinese Youth International’s exploration in UK in the past five years explained vividly that international output of capital and entity overseas are advanced modes for cooperation and development in worldwide news publishing industry. This requires that the enterprise shall have internationalized development view, accumulate operational experiences for localization overseas, and meanwhile understand that the enterprise operational experiences and development opportunities are much more valuable than profit.” The speech by director Xu Wenli was appreciated by all the guests. His speech was interrupted by applause for several times. After the forum was finished, journalists from Xinhua News Agency, Phoenix TV, Chinese News Publishing and UK Chinese Times made deepened exclusive interviews with director Xu and gave key reports. It was said in UK Chinese Times that, “The success of Chinese Youth International was a commercial wonder of recent years in international publishing circle.”   The “Chinese Style Scenery – Chinese Modern Photographic Art Fair” opened on April 12 is one of the Chinese modern photographic art fair with most artists and highest art level exhibited in London and even the whole Europe. The exhibition had Gu Zheng, critic with the top influence in modern Chinese photographic field and professor from Fudan University, as its main curator, and Wang Tao, expert in Chinese Department of School of Oriental and African Studies in London University, Zhang Hongxing – curator of Victoria and Albert Museum in London and Guo Guang, General Manager of Chinese Youth International as its assistant curators. Most of the exhibits were selected from Chinese Modern Photographic Art published by Chinese Youth International. The exhibition selected nearly 40 works by 12 artists with the most concerns, creative power and passion, and active in the world art and photographic site, showing Chinese style sceneries with distinctive characteristics, providing novel angle and powerful carrier for international transmission of Chinese image and culture, and transferring development of Chinese modern society to visitors from UK and the world. On the opening reception for the photographic exhibition in the afternoon, more than 60 guests and personages from media field at home and abroad from GAPP, Chinese Embassy in UK, Scholl of Oriental and African Studies and UK modern photographic circle, academic community and book exhibition circle showed at the event. Chinese ambassador in UK Liu Xiaoming sent his congratulation and appreciated that, “the host of the activity made significant contribution to cultural exchange between China and UK.” Director Xu Wenli expressed in his congratulation that, “We are not only a press. We are willing to be a positive messenger for China – UK culture exchange. We hope that this photographic fair is a good beginning, and we are considering to cooperate with School of Oriental and African Studies for a series of culture and communication cooperation activities, and thus to give more UK audiences the opportunity to learn the rich, diversified, and dynamic Chinese society and culture.” As the one of the most important exhibition with the longest period among Chinese collective activities on 2012 London Book Fair, this photography show will last for about 2 months from April 12 to June 8, predicted to attract about 20 thousands of audiences.
  Planned and led by leaders of the head office with substantial support and cooperation from relative divisions of the head office, the publishing team of Chinese Youth International conquered challenges brought by international financial crisis and adjustment of the worldwide publishing and issuance industry. After 5 years of hard struggle, the team has integrated publishing resources and advantages of China and UK and pushed out series of fine books showing Chinese culture art such as China, Tibet, Chinese Landscape Art, the Prettiest Classical Chinese Painting and so on to the international main stream market in Chinese, English, French, Italian, Russian and other languages with the cooperation with several famous publishers in the world, creating publishing philosophy and business mode for international expression for Chinese elements, international package for Chinese culture and international marketing for Chinese products, with publishing quality approved extensively in the international market. Most of the products have their edition manufacture and format design reaching a relatively high level in the world, and the retail price, language versions and releasing volumes of partial products have created new records for like products. Investment rate of return in recent two years has reached to 20%~30% and has grown to be a well-known professional publication brand with fresh publication characteristics and international influence. The success of Chinese Youth International expanded the brand influence of Chinese Youth Head Office at home and abroad and functioned positively on promotion of domestic publishing business.
