黔驴技穷
There were no donkeys in Guizhou. Someone brought a donkey there from outside of Guizhou and then let it free at the foot of a mountain. When a tiger saw the big donkey and heard it give a loud cry for the first time, he was so frightened that he ran far away from it . Later, the tiger came back and got close to the donkey. Moreover(而且)，he teased(戏弄)the donkey. The donkey became very angry but only could kick him with its hoofs（蹄子）. Discovering that was all the donkey could do，the tiger ate it up immediately.
刻舟求剑
Once in the State of Chu there was a man who crossed a river by boat. While crossing the river, he dropped his sword into the river because of carelessness. So he carved(刻)a mark on the side of the boat at once, marking the place where his sword was lost. After a while, the boat stopped. Then the man jumped into the river and looked for the losing sword according to the place he had marked. As a result，the sword could not be found.
自相矛盾
There was a man who sold spears(矛)and shields(盾) in a crowded street. To show the firmness of his shield，he cried,“Look, nothing can break my shield.”A moment later, to show the sharpness of his spear, he cried again,“Look，there is nothing they will not penetrate(刺穿).”At this time someone nearby asked,“How about using your own spear to try on your own shield？”The man could not give a reply.
曹冲称象
Once Cao Cao，King of Wei，got an elephant. He wanted to know its weight. However，the elephant was so big that none of his men knew what to do.
Then Cao Chong，one of his sons，asked his father to give him a big boat and a lot of heavy stones. He promised to get the weight.
Cao Cao was surprised，but he still told his men to do as the boy asked. They came to a river and according to Cao Chong，the elephant was led down to the boat. Then he marked along the water line on the boat. When the elephant was out of the boat, the men were asked to carry stones into it. As the water again came up to the place he marked，Cao Chong ordered the men to take the stones out of the boat and weigh them one by one. Finally he got the weight of the elephant by adding up all the weight of the stones.
狐假虎威
Once upon a time, a tiger met a fox and wanted to eat it. The fox was not frightened. He told the tiger，“You can’t take me as food, for I have been made the king of animals by the Emperor of the Heaven. If you eat me, the Emperor will punish you.” The tiger hesitated(犹豫).But he was not certain whether those words were true. Seeing this, the fox said,“If you don’t believe my words，just follow me and see how animals nun away.”Thus，the tiger went along with the fox and found， of course，all the animals turned and ran away wherever they appeared. Finally he had to let the fox go，for he thought it was indeed the fox that made animals frightened. He never knew it was only because of his appearance.
