The race to seize global emerging markets is constantly escalating. However, relying on agile action alone cannot win the competition. In 2005, retailers withdrew from 17 markets and it is expected that retailers will withdraw from another 19 markets in 2006. Many retailers are gloomy and barely maintain their livelihoods. Victory, however, belongs to companies that take appropriate actions at the right time. Location is still important, but the timing of the decision is everything. Kearney’s newly published 2006 Global Retail Development IndexTM (GRDI) ranks 30 emerging markets by measuring more than 25 macroeconomic and retail-related variables, and ranks human resources in 15 emerging countries. Helps retailers prioritize their global development strategies.
