Objective: To investigate the expression of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) in rat oral carcinogenesis and its biological significance. Methods: The rat model of tongue carcinogenesis was established by feeding the Wistar rats with 0.002% 4-nitroquinoline-1-oxide (4NQO) for 9-32 weeks. The pathological changes of tongue in 30 rats were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR SDH expression level in stage tissue. Results: mild dysplasia, moderate dysplasia, severe dysplasia. In squamous cell carcinoma, the expression of SDH in moderate and severe dysplasia was significantly lower than that in normal mucosa (P <0.05 or P <0.01). The expression of SDH correlated with histopathological grade (P <0.01). Conclusion: SDH gene expression is associated with the occurrence and development of oral cancer. Tricarboxylic acid cycle may play an important role in the carcinogenesis of oral mucosa.
