June 25, 1950, the Korean war broke out. At a time when U.S. President Harry Truman was on his weekends in Independence, Missouri. Secretary of State Acheson told him about the war in North Korea. Truman decided to fly back to Washington soon. He sent a telegram to Acheson on the plane asking him to inform his senior officials to attend the “dinner party” at Blair House to discuss proposals prepared by the State Department and the Department of Defense. This “proposal”, in addition to saying that the U.S. people in North Korea should be evacuated expeditiously and offered arms and supplies to the Korean army, specially pointed out that the Seventh Fleet should be ordered to enter the Taiwan Strait. According to Bradley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff attending this “dinner party,” later recalled:
