Recently, benign leiomyomas are considered to be involved in the constant chromosomal rearrangement of chromosomes 12 and/or 14, and this finding is favorable for understanding the molecular basis of proliferation and spread of benign and malignant tumors. The authors cultured tumor cells of benign uterine fibroids for a short period of time. The prepared chromosomes showed specific changes in dir ins (14;6) (q23;p23;p25). This change supports the hypothesis that the 14q23 breakpoint has a special relationship with uterine leiomyoma. On September 14, 1987, a 46-year-old woman underwent a total hysterectomy as a result of a surgical exploration that revealed a huge uterus. At the time, it was suspected that the uterine tumors had metastasized from the liver, or were related to the renal masses and osteolysis of the spinal cord. The patient was further examined for his apparent weight loss due to back pain.
