中国工笔人物画的发展历史长久,工笔人物画的发展高峰是唐朝,此后无论哪个时代都没有超越中国工笔人物画在唐朝的发展。从明清朝到近代,尽管优秀的画家不断的涌现,但工笔人物画却始终没有再成为画坛的主流。新中国建立之后,徐悲鸿先生提出把素描融入到中国画中,这个技法促使工笔人物画再次觉醒,从二十世纪八十年代开始,工笔人物画发展迅速,再次步入繁荣时期,而且在创作题材和表现形式上有很大的创新,同时期的画家在新创作品的构思创作上注入更多自主性灵感,越来越多的艺术家注重个性创作,出现了多种创作风格,就是在这种创作背景的影响下,工笔人物画艺术创作风格呈现多元化趋势。
