Art is the symbol of emotion, a notion of literary symbolism led by Ernst Cassirer and his disciple Susan Lange. After this view is produced, the impact is huge. Thus, the artistic symbols have the ability to show the human emotions, then into a conclusion. However, does the artistic symbol only show the human emotion? No matter whether it is Susan Lange himself or the historical fact of art, the answers given are all negative. In fact, art symbols have multiple signifiers. Moreover, the complex relationship between these signifiers means that the artworks produce new second signifiers. This thesis attempts to clarify this issue by taking the theory of literary semiotics and the main theorists of relevant schools as academic resources and combining various historical facts of art, such as drama, painting, literature and architecture.
