Objective: To investigate the expression of erythrocyte membrane protein 2 (SLP-2) in gastric cancer and its relationship with clinicopathological parameters and prognosis. Methods: Totally 190 gastric cancer specimens with complete clinical data were collected from Department of Pathology, Cancer Center of Sun Yat-sen University. The expression of SLP-2 protein in gastric cancer was detected by immunohistochemistry. The relationship between the expression of SLP-2 protein and clinicopathological features and prognosis was analyzed. Results: (1) The positive rate of SLP-2 protein in gastric cancer was 63.2% (120/190). The expression of SLP-2 was correlated with the depth of invasion, TNM stage and lymph node metastasis (P <0.05), but not with the gender, age, tumor differentiation, tumor diameter and distant metastasis (P> 0.05) -Meier survival curve analysis showed that the cumulative survival rate of SLP-2 positive patients was significantly lower than that of negative patients (P <0.01); (3) The results of univariate analysis showed that the expression of SLP-2, lymph node metastasis, The degree, tumor diameter, TNM stage, depth of invasion and distant metastasis all affected the prognosis of gastric cancer. Multivariate analysis showed that only tumor diameter and TNM stage were independent prognostic indicators. Conclusion: (1) SLP-2 is highly expressed in gastric adenocarcinoma and may be involved in the development and metastasis of gastric adenocarcinoma. (2) SLP-2 may affect the prognosis of gastric carcinoma to a certain extent. Overexpression of SLP-2 suggests poor prognosis of gastric carcinoma.
