65岁的潘文石是北京大学生命科学学院教授、北京大学大熊猫和野生动物保护与研究中心主任,中国政协委员。他主持的大熊猫方面的研究曾获得中国国家科委科学进步一等奖、美国大熊猫基金会的科学特别成就奖、福特汽车环保奖。1985年3月,潘文石带着3名学生,背着沉重的登山包进入秦岭南坡,开始了对大熊猫的研究。在随后的10多年里,他无数次带领他的学生们深入到陕西、四川的崇山峻岭,对大熊猫的行为特征,生活环境、生存压力和危机、种群遗传组成等进行了细致深入的研究,对大熊猫的保护作出了杰出的贡献,成为国际公认的大熊猫研究权威。
Pan Wenshi, 65, is a professor at the School of Life Sciences at Peking University and director of the Giant Panda and Wildlife Conservation and Research Center of Peking University, member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He conducted the giant panda research has won the first prize of China’s State Science and Technology Progress in Science, the United States giant panda Foundation’s Special Scientific Achievement Award, the Ford Environmental Award. In 1985 March, Pan Wen-shih with three students, carrying heavy mountaineering bags into the southern slope of Qinling, began the study of giant pandas. In the following 10 years, he led countless times his students deep into the mountains of Shaanxi and Sichuan, and studied the behavior characteristics, living environment, living pressure and crisis of giant panda, genetic composition of the population and so on. Giant panda protection made outstanding contributions to become internationally recognized panda research authority.
