This article explores the family, lineage and relocation of Kazakhstan in the post-socialist period. It particularly shows the significance of “lineage” for immigrants who move from the country to the big cities. It focuses on the influence of the lineage and family relations on the life of Kazakh immigrants. The author believes that the concept of lineage is Kazakhstan’s cultural heritage, which emphasizes rigorous ethics, religious spirit and unity, as well as the responsibilities and obligations of family members. In terms of research methods, the article begins with a case of ethnography and describes the experience of a couple of immigrants, the Kazakh couple Martina and James Burrett, who moved from the countryside to the big cities, Intergenerational dialogue across the urban-rural gap. The conclusion drawn is that the descent is a creative movement that can ease anxiety among the elderly in the village. Lineage emphasizes the relationship between individual and ancestor, but also builds a very meaningful framework of the relationship between individuals, families and generations.
