Objective: To investigate the role of angiopoietin-1 (ANGPT-1) and its receptor Tie-2 in the development of endometriosis (endometriosis). Methods: The expressions of ANGPT-1 and Tie-2 in ectopic and eutopic endometrium of 30 patients with endometriosis were analyzed by immunohistochemical SP method and computer image analysis technique. Thirty normal uterus Endometrium as a control group. Results: ANGPT-1 and Tie-2 were expressed in the vascular endothelium, glandular epithelium and stromal cells of the intima of the three groups, mainly located in the cytoplasm. The expression of ANGPT-1 and Tie-2 in ectopic endometrium and eutopic endometrium of endometriosis was highly expressed, which was significantly higher than that of normal endometrium (P <0.01). The expression of ANGPT-1 in ectopic and eutopic endometrium showed no significant difference (P> 0.05); the expression of Tie-2 in ectopic endometrium was significantly higher than that in eutopic endometrium, the difference was highly significant P <0.01). The expressions of ANGPT-1 and Tie-2 in eutopic and normal endometrium all changed periodically with the menstrual cycle. The expression of ANGPT-1 in endometrium was higher than that in proliferative phase (P <0.01) , Tie-2 was significantly higher than the secretory phase of proliferation (P <0.01). The expression of ANGPT-1 and Tie-2 in the normal control group were both higher than the secretory phase in proliferative phase. Conclusion: The high expression of ANGPT-1 and Tie-2 in endometriosis and ectopic endometriosis patients may play an important role in the pathogenesis and development of endometriosis.
