AIM: To investigate the effects of sodium aescinate on the expression of SOD and MDA during retinal ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. Methods: Rat models of retinal ischemia-reperfusion injury were prepared by anterior chamber compression. SD rats were randomly divided into normal group, ischemia-reperfusion model group and sodium aescinate treatment group, Detection of retinal tissue SOD activity and MDA content. Results: After retinal ischemia / reperfusion injury, SOD activity was significantly increased and the content of MDA was significantly decreased in the aescinate treated group as compared with the ischemia / reperfusion model group. The difference was statistically significant. CONCLUSION: Sodium aescinate can resist oxidative damage after retinal ischemia-reperfusion injury, and its mechanism may be related to increasing SOD activity and decreasing MDA content.
