组合机床是一种由大量通用件加上一部分专用件组成的用以加工一定对象的专用机床,其零部件的通用化程度一般可达到75%以上,个别机床甚至达到90%。由于采用了大量的通用件,因此组合机床与一般专用机床相比,有设计制造周期较短,制造成本较廉,以及由于通用件是事先经过验证的,所以使组成的机床性能比较可靠,当加工对象改变时,其通用件还可以重复利用等优点。因此通用件是组合机床发展的基础。
