Eliot’s early poetry “Preludes” has not been valued by critics. The reason may be that the critics think this song “Prelude ” in the theme and style and no unique development, coupled with its shorter length, the performance of the theme not only did not exceed the “Love Song of Prufrock” Range, but also subject to certain restrictions. However, in my opinion, this poem shows not only different characteristics but also more connection with Eliot’s later thoughts than other poems written by Eliot in the early days. Through the use of related theories and methods of discourse analysis, especially functional linguistic theories and analytical methods, this paper explores the rich meanings of the personal pronouns in this poem, reveals their specific meanings and relations in different contexts, and finally Pointing out that the theme of this poem makes it distinctive from other early poems, that is, emphasizing more the poet’s positive attitude in the face of vulgar life, affirming the surpassing ability of imagination and leaving a direct link Its later creative theme and aesthetic pursuit of the hidden path.
