The investigation of the psychological stressors, pressures and stress coping styles faced by 60 adult burn patients before discharge was analyzed. The results show that: Before the discharge of the patient, burn patients face dual pressure sources of their own and the environment, and they have mild psychological pressure. Changes in appearance and other people’s discrimination and prejudice are the primary sources of pressure from themselves and the environment. All the patients used problem-oriented and emotional-oriented stress coping styles, but 81.7% of patients emphasized stress-oriented coping styles, while 18.3% of patients were biased toward stress-oriented coping strategies to alleviate stress, focusing on problem-orientation. Patients with stress coping had lower psychological stress than patients with a focus on emotional orientation (P < 0.05). This result provides guidance for the development of mental rehabilitation plans for burn patients before and after discharge
