视觉人类学在国际学界尚属于新学科,但在中国却已异军突起,独领风骚。这种现象缘于中国人的读图叙事传统,也得益于近年来视觉文化、影视普及和新媒体刺激下的人文意识觉醒。不仅仅在文化实践上,在理论总结和教学领域中国这方面亦是成绩卓著。邓启耀的《视觉人类学导论》全面地回顾和论述了中国百年影视文化发展筚路蓝缕的历史。它不仅从理论上廓清了这一学科的发展脉络,更从实践上回顾了作为媒介传播的中国近现代视觉文化的形成,特别是着眼于当代的视觉叙事、视觉思维和视觉文化与意识形态的关系等方面进行了有力的阐述与论证。
