There are 28 special hardship villages in Hanyuan County, Sichuan Province, China. An English girl, in one of the 17 small mountain villages inhabited by the Han, Yi and Tibetan mountain peoples, regarded her help and poverty as her career and pursuit. China’s magical western make her hard to break away, fell in love with her boyfriend eight years and made her sad ... but in the end she chose to stay. She and her “Sichuan Rural Development Organization” created a series of incredible wonders in the difficult times. Premier Zhu Rongji described her as “an English rose that transmits the Sino-British friendship.” Today, this rose from a foreign country is still firmly on the land in western China.
