Objective: To investigate the correlation of bladder scanner with residual urine in patients with neurogenic bladder. Methods: Twenty-five patients with neurogenic bladder were tested for residual urine by intermittent bladder catheterization before intermittent urination. Then the intermittent catheterization was used to measure the actual urine output. The correlation and difference between the two groups were compared. Results: The urine volume measured by 128 bladder scanners was linearly correlated with the actual urine output measured by intermittent catheterization. The correlation coefficient was 0.97. The measurement error of 103 (80.4%) was within 20% of the actual value between. Conclusions: Bladder scanner is useful for the determination of residual urine. Bladder scanner is instructive for intermittent catheterization in patients with neurogenic bladder, which can reduce the number of blind intermittent catheterization and reduce urinary tract injury and infection.
