In Chinese mythology, that two women surrounded one cen tre, the man, constituted a kind of condguration, which con formed to traditional matrimonial institution. Its ethical basis was that filial biety found in having much more children, which depended upon the establishment of polygyny. Therefore, such a kind of configuration led to a harmonious relationship. In Western mythology, nevertheless, monogyny is regarded as an ideal matrimonial paradigm. Any violation of this matrimonial institution would rcsull in punishment or Medea’s terrible revenge. A clear difference comes into view between Chinese women’s submission to man’s hegemony and Western women’s indcpendent individulism and rebellious spirit
