Plato’s idea of “extirpating the poet from the ideal state” put forward in “The Republic of the Nation” has always been criticized by people as being deprived of the poetics and the value of the arts and therefore anti-aesthetics. At the same time, however, we also have to pay attention to the contradictions that exist before and after his aesthetic thoughts. It is these contradictions that represent Plato’s true attitude to poetics - not criticism, but love. This article starts with the contradictions in Plato ’s aesthetic thought, explores how Plato unified the contradictions, and analyzes the shortcomings in Plato’ s aesthetic thoughts and the warning significance to the reality.
