清代中国,广州向欧美出口了各种各样的工艺品1,扇子便是这些中国制品之一。中国扇子的大量出口鲜为人知。关于这些扇子的出口数量,在《中国旧海关史料(1859~1948)》2中有准确记录。1859年上半年从上海出口到英国及各国的扇子数量如表1所示。1859年上半年即从1月到6月的6个月的时间,从上海出口到包括英国在内的诸多国家的扇子达到了1000万把以上。而英国在1859年就从上海和广州进口了约267万把
