The two innovative technologies, fuel cells and microturbines, will be the decisive factor in making natural gas the main resource of the 21st century. Fuel cells use the energy generated by the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen to drive the engine. People think that it will eventually make low-emission vehicles a reality, so Japanese, American, and European car manufacturers are sparing no effort to develop. “Although gasoline is used now, natural gas will be the first choice in the future,” said the report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan’s Fuel Cell Practical Strategy Research Meeting in the fall of 2000, which predicted fuel for fuel cell vehicles.
