Anyone attempting to split China in any part of the country will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones.
Speaking Sunday in Nepal, Chinese President Xi Jinping said any attempt “to split China in any part of the country will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones.”
Anyone attempt-ing to split China in any part of the country will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones,” Xi Jinping said in a meeting with leaders during a visit to Nepal on Sunday, according to China’s state broadcaster, CCTV.
(VOA,The Voice of America)说:On a visit this week to Nepal, Chinese President Xi Jinping said anyone attempting to split China “will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones.”
(Anyone attempting… will be) crushed。
一种更直白,更血腥:be chopped up for mincemeat,字面意思是“剁成碎肉”。 当然,在爱情小说里,如果男主人翁说“For the sake of love, I would die a thousand deaths.”(为了爱而粉身碎骨。)
(杨朔《东风第一枝》)英语可译成smash body into powder and break the bones into pieces。
《汉英大词典》《柯林斯高阶英汉双解学习词典》等对“粉身碎骨”的英语解释也有七八种,其实是大同小异的:be smashed to pieces、be beaten till one’s bones are broken、be dashed [hacked] to pieces、be crushed to powder、grind someone’s bones to powder and make mincemeat of one’s flesh、have one’s body pounded to pieces、die the cruelest death等。
There is only the question: when will I be blown up?
If you get blown up and you lose your helmet, they still bill you.
The bird disintegrated into a few pathetic feathers.
This plane feels like it’s gonna break apart.
They walked right into a booby-trap and got blown to smithereens.
