我省煤矿区一些矸子山或矸子道,有大量碳质页岩的资源。分未燃段和自燃段两种情况;未燃段碳质页岩如腐植酸含量高的,可试制腐植酸铵肥料;自燃段因长期风化与自燃,表层出现嫩黄、白色结核、结壳体和黑褐、黄褐色碳质页岩的碎粒、细粉。化验含有益肥分,如氮、钾、硅酸、腐植酸,以及其他微量营养元素;可直接作肥料使用。经几年田间和盆钵试验结果证明,对水稻、玉米、高粱等作物一般增产10~20%。此外,在自燃段的碳质页岩碎块、细粒中,尚含少量煤焦油、烃、酚类化合物,如经筛选、和农肥堆腐处理,并施用法得当,尚不至为害作物。
