In the past two years, the public opinion in Hong Kong has been very enthusiastic about the “Hong Kong Individual Travel Scheme.” Both the positive and negative reasons seem quite satisfactory. It believes that it has brought a large amount of external consumption and directly promoted the expansion of Hong Kong’s service industry and the employment rate, making it an irreplaceable positive impact on Hong Kong’s economic growth. The opposite party believes that the benefits it brings mainly benefit big-capitalists, while the middle and lower classes share less. Visitors squeeze the daily living space of the public. A large amount of input demand has pushed up Hong Kong’s local prices. The focus of the arguments between the two sides is obviously not just viewing “Hong Kong’s personal travel plan” as an economic issue but rather as a political issue to discuss. The key point is the depth and breadth of the development of the relations between Hong Kong and the Mainland.
