一、概说奴隶制度曾在世界大部分地区的古代社会中流行过。在古代印度,被雅利安人征服的原土著居民被称为达萨(dasas)或达休(dasyus)。他们被看做是侍奉雅利安人的奴隶。古罗马克劳狄皇帝时代(公元41—54年)的奴隶数量高达2083.2万人。~①在雅典,有8万奴隶和4万公民共同生活着。~②在古代欧洲的众多市场中,奴隶买卖是公开进行的。当时的人对此没有提出过任何反对意见。其中主要的奴隶贸易中心是塞浦路斯、企沃斯岛、以弗所、萨摩斯岛和色雷斯。在基督降生前的古代中国,奴隶制度也是被广泛
I. Introduction Slavery has prevailed in ancient societies in most parts of the world. In ancient India, the indigenous peoples conquered by the Aryans were called dasas or dasyus. They are seen as slaves serving the Aryans. The number of slaves in ancient Claudian emperors (AD 41-54) was as high as 20.832 million. In Athens there were 80,000 slaves and 40,000 citizens living together. In many ancient markets in Europe, slave trade was conducted in public. There was no objection raised by people at that time. One of the major centers for slave trade is Cyprus, Ethiopia, Ephesus, Samos and Thrace. In ancient China before Christ’s death, the system of slavery was also extensive
