盛唐诗人王维出生在一个佛教气氛很浓的家庭。其母崔氏持戒安禅三十余年,是一个颇有修养的佛教徒。在母亲的熏陶下,他和弟弟王缙“俱奉佛,居常蔬菜,不茹荤血”,二十几岁就已受教于名僧。《旧唐书·王维传》说他“妻亡不再娶,三十余年孤居一室,屏绝尘累。”王维丧妻时当三十岁左右,那时他就已被佛教浸润身心。从他写的《赞佛文》、《与胡居士皆病寄此诗兼示学人》、《绣如意轮像赞》等诗文也可以看出,他深谙禅宗教义,对佛学有很高造诣。
