The cold-island archipelago is the only stable permafrost region in Norway, and has been studied for different basic setting methods for decades. Among these methods, it has been proved that the use of stakes in drilling (with mud) and precast concrete piles within a certain range are both economically and geotechnically suitable. Due to the long-distance transport, the pile material cost is very high, prompting the Norwegian Institute of Technology to start researching alternative construction methods for the foundation of permafrost. This article deals with the first step in the study of concrete foundations in the permafrost region, with the aim of obtaining relatively simple and inexpensive methods.
