The development of X120 high-strength pipeline steel offers natural gas producers the opportunity to reduce the total cost of long-distance gas transmission lines by 5% to 15%, thereby reducing the price of transporting natural gas to the market. The cost reduction comes from a number of aspects, including material, construction, (gas) compression and savings from combined design. This paper introduces the general situation of X120 steel grade development plan, including large-scale test and girth welding. Meanwhile, the practical application of X120 grade pipeline steel is discussed. In these schemes, the pressure of pipeline is higher, the diameter of pipe is smaller, Cost savings of 5% to 15%.
