按照所投资公司的成长阶段,台湾地区的私募基金包括创投基金(主要投资起始阶段的创新企业)、私募资本(投资有上市潜力的非上市公司)、私募证券投资基金(投资已上市公司)3类。台湾首富郭台铭就曾创办过私募投资基金,把很差的企业整顿成很好的企业,以此致富。不过台湾仍以第3种为主,单个私募的一般规模大概在2亿～3亿新台币。
