РД-33 is a biaxial, low bypass ratio afterburner turbofan engine developed by the Klimov Design Bureau in Russia and manufactured at the Chernihiv plant (Red October factory). The engine acts as a light-weight front-air combat aircraft MИГ-29 power plant. Because the MИГ-29 was developed by the former Soviet Union to fight the third generation fighter F-16 and F / A-18 in the United States, the design focuses on high subsonic mobility of the aircraft,
